Fall of 1987 in London, England, the upper deck of the bus open to the fresh cool air under the canopy of the very old heritage trees
I was so inspired in those moments. After about five years of desiring to be in the Tree Business, I at the very short time on that bus, decided and confirmed in my heart that I will and did start my business
when I returned to the US I took a class from the appraisal, consulting research training(ACRT) in Kent, Ohio.
and so I did start my business in 1987
my excitement in the industry increased month by month my drive and determination was breeding the start of success
City Of Cincinnati, urban Forester Steve Sanford at that time took a liking's to me looking back on it in the late 80s I could now say that he was like a mentor
he directed me on how to qualify to bid on City work approximately two years later I won a 5.5 mile stretch of Columbia Parkway, a very dangerous four lane artery leading to and from downtown Cincinnati
I won that contract by only 2% They did not have to consider me qualified just because I was the lower bid.
Steve was convinced that my safety approach and other strategies were very good.
The careful approach made the "WIN"
The village of Greenhills (one of three Greenbelt villages established in the 30's under the direction of president D. Roosevelt, also found my company to have the credentials and standards
to Win contracts to them in the 90s
1997. I became an ISA certified arborist raising the standard of my tree care operation.
within a few months, I served on the board of the international Society of Arboriculture Ohio chapter
also got the privilege of being a tree, climbing judge for the ISA climbing competition
I was honored with the 2011 ISA gold leaf award
this was due to the efforts of working with a Japanese artist constructing two white birch trees together
Google Art: Hanging garden at Holy Cross Church
over the many years
winning municipal, recreation parks, commercial contracts, property managers, Railroad contracts and thousands of residential customers all gave me a great depth of gratification
I look back on 20 years of Home & Garden Shows that brought Channels 5, 9, 12 and 19 interviews of my creative and entertaining displays
I also enjoyed the news interviews when it comes to drought, storm damage, Emerald Ash borer and other tree issues
Parades with trophies
Cincinnati flower shows with ribbons and other events all just truly made the story of my adventurous journey
Midway in the nearly 40 year journey, I was extremely happy with a 99% success rate in saving Ash trees from the Emerald Ash Borer
I am also very proud that I was hired to fight against clear cutting under the powerlines that reached Columbus, Ohio. after many of my written reports challenging the energy company PUCO found it favorable and heard they're cry PUCO did stop the clear cutting of that long span
These types of great opportunities really put me on the map in southern Ohio Northern Kentucky and south eastern Indiana
I have always had a heart for people victim to storms damages. I spent five solid months with an average of eight men every week for five months on the hurricane Katrina clean up. including Ivan and the Bowling Green tornado.
well, I didn't get rich in my near 40 years of business but I was able to see the sequoia's, and champion Trees in different states
The three associations I belonged to, The Tree care industry Association (TCIA)
, The international Society of arboriculture(ISA)and the American Society of consulting arborist ASCA have all made it possible to see some of the most beautiful sites like Hawaii, Aruba, Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, Jamaica, Cabo San Lucas, Saint Kitts, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Jamaica, and other Caribbean Islands Denmark, Sweden, New Zealand, Fiji and dozens of states I enjoyed visiting Canadian Rockies due to advertising with WCPO
Church related to Anchorage Alaska, Athens, Greece, Patmos, Istanbul,
Ephesus, Germany, and beautiful vacation sites in the US needless to say, I have truly been blessed.
Now shifting gears from the challenges of Covid and in May of 2023 witnessing the blunt death of my wife that was struck by a car flipping over on her killing her instantly, I decided that It was OK to sell my business
I sold December 2024
After using 2025 as a one year recess being semi retired just wasn't easy
Now, with a second wind, as if I'm in my 30's again, I have decided to reconnect in business. This time, a one-man show (LLC) doing the parts of the tree care business that I love best. consulting, saving trees, and the ongoing developing and beautifying of my 29 acre country home And most importantly actively serving my church
God willing my additional 5 to 10 year plan will also be a success
I give thanks to our creator God.
